30.6. – 4.7.
Beaches and Sea

We will learn about:

  • What a beach is and what elements make a beach, like sand and water
  • Where in the world beaches are located
  • Things we bring to a beach
  • Games and sports that are played on the beach and in the sea

Educational Activities:

We will talk about what makes a beach and practice using vocabulary such as sand, waves, and sea. We will discuss the places in the world that have beaches and we will talk about our favorite beach experiences! For example, have you ever been to a beach in Florida? Or Turkey? And more importantly, we will talk about beach safety and how to behave on a beach. We will make use of our globe and map. We will also view images and videos of beaches. And of course, we will use the big sand box outside as our very own beach and construct sand castles and seas in it!

Games:

On Land or in the Ocean?
Sharks in the Sea

Arts & Crafts Activities:

We will make an octopus craft and make many tentacles for it! We will use real sand and glue it to paper! We will then create our own personal beaches! We will also create ocean art by using watercolor paints!

Music:

We will sing songs such as “Baby Beluga” and “Five Little Shells.”

Activity:

We will go to the Berounka beach and will get some icecream.

7.7.-11.7.2014
Feel The Music!

We will learn about:

  • Different styles of music.
  • What can make music?
  • What is your favourite song and why?

Educational Activities:

Feel the rhythm! We will experience a Music and Movement activity and feel the beat with our bodies. Different styles of dancing will be introduced to the children.

Nature has a rhythm. Let’s see if we can get in sync with it!

Games:

Spiderman Says. (A variation on Simon Says)
Freeze-Rock.
Dance Off Disco Dancing Competition.

Arts & Crafts Activities:

We will make our own string instruments from rubber band and small paper boxes.

Music:

Some modern Jazz, A live DJ set from Steve encompassing Disco, Dance and Pop music.

Then a demonstration of Flamenco guitar to create an impression of rhythm.

Trip

We will go to Music Museum in Prague. There we can for example see the exibition „man-instruments-music“.

14.7. – 18.7. 2014
Animals not only in our home

We will learn about:

  • Which animals and plants we find in the sea
  • Which animals live in the wild in our country and which animals we can only find the ZOO
  • What endangered animals are
  • Which animals can fly, swim and walk and how it is possible

Educational Activities:

We will practice questions and answers concerning animals (What is your favorite animal? What is your least favorite animal? Are you scared of…? Have you got a pet? If you could be an animal, what would you be?)

We will repeat old, and learn new, vocabulary. We will use quizzes and pantomimes to help us.
We will describe what endangered animals are and how we can protect them. We will talk about how animals can move and where they live. We will play the game Duck, duck, goose.

Games:

Arts & Crafts Activities:

Children will color an animal with a special technique using lots of water and blowing watercolors into it. One day we will make an animal mask.

Can you design a perfect zoo or aquarium? Let´s try it on paper.

Music:

We will sing songs like “Old MacDonald”, “Bingo”, “Incy Wincy Spider” and ,,What we can Sea under the Sea,” ,,Mister Octopus” ,,1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive..” many more.

Activity:

We will visit the „Stanice přírodovědců Smíchov“.

21.7. – 25.7. 2014
Clouds Week

We will learn about:

  • Introduction to various different types of clouds.
  • Ultimate Cloud facts.
  • We will learn to identify different types of clouds.

Educational Activities:

Cloud Spotting. We will each have a chart and tick off what clouds we have found.
Cloud Cards mix and match game.

Games:

Name that cloud!
I can be a cloud!

Arts & Crafts Activities:

Make your own cloud! From cotton wool. Tactile experiences will develop as we touch and discover what a cloud feels like.
Painting in the park, paint the sky! / Cloud Sketching.

Music:

Hey You Get Off My Cloud! The Rolling Stones.
Airplane Airplane Way Up In The Sky.

Trip or extra activity:

Trip to the highest point near or school in Černošice to take us nearer to the sky.

28.7.-1.8.2014
We love strawberries

We will learn about:

  • The strawberry fields in Kunratice are the trademarks of the area. We will learn how they are planted, grown and harvested and explore how they get into the jams and yogurts that we love.

Educational Activities:

Story time and drama play – “The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear” by Audrey Wood

Real life experience - From Strawberry to jam – Sequence story with the flashcards - picture description, putting in order followed by practical activities

Action rhymes – Strawberry Patch/ Picked a Strawberry

Literacy – Writing and typing the labels for jars and cups (Strawberry jam, Strawberry yoghurt etc.)

Numeracy – sorting the strawberries by size, amount estimation + counting and weighing the strawberries on the kitchen scales

Games:

Mystery box – “Planting, Growing and harvesting the strawberries” – memory game with the objects + hide and seek

The Strawberry hunt – in the garden – picking up the variety of objects into the baskets followed by creative activity

Ball games with red and green balls

Arts & Crafts Activities:

“Strawberry cupcakes/cookies” – pretend play with pink – strawberry scented play dough – rolling, shaping, cutting, decorating…

“Strawberry field” – Large scale painting and printmaking using untraditional tools

“Pop art strawberry” – painting the strawberry on squares of card board inspired by Andy Warhol’s esthetics

The Beatles – Strawberry fields forever

Trip or extra activity:

The whole week will be topped off with the “Strawberry party” where we will bake cupcakes, shape strawberries from the marzipan, skew fresh strawberries and dip them in chocolate or prepare fresh juice or refreshing strawberry water with herbs.

4.8. – 8.8.2014
Around the Continents

We will learn about:

  • The continents North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Each day will be devoted to each of the continents
  • Where on the map each continent is located
  • The food, language, and culture of each continent
  • Sports and hobbies within each culture
  • The weather on each of the continents

Educational Activities:

We will talk about five continents and explore features of each continent. We will discuss which continent we live on and which continents we have visited on holiday! We will play a “Where in the World” game in which we ask each other questions based on the continents—for example, “Where in the world would you find lions and zebras.” “I would find lions and zebras in Africa!” We will watch film clips to aid in our exploration of continents, such as the film, “Madagascar.” And we will play picture matching games in which we match continents to their pictures—the Statue of Liberty and yellow taxis belong to North America! We will use our globe to help in our discovery of the continents, but we will also have fun hands-on experiences, including “Cooking Across the Continents.” We will cook European food, as well as South American food! And since the World Cup takes place this summer, we will talk about the countries that are competing and even have our own Kindergarten World Cup game!

Arts & Crafts Activities:

We will make a paper plate continent craft in which we place continents on our very own globes! We will also discuss which continent we live on, and we will make a craft based on that continent—for Europe, we will paste on pictures of things found in Europe such as Prague Castle and the Eiffel Tower.

Music:

We will sing songs such as “The Continent Song” and “Continents Tour.”

Activity:

We will have a picnic on Petrin Hill (to try to some European food), which is close to many embassies. We can walk down the beautiful street, Tržiště, in Malá Strana and look at the flags that belong to various countries!

11.8.-15.8.
Travel to the space

We will learn about:

  • Travel into space and explore different planets
  • Our solar system
  • The first man on the moon
  • Mystery of UFO/Aliens

Educational Activities:

We will ,,travel“ to space. We will talk about different planets in our solar system and where the Earth and Sun is located. And, how everything moves and how it is connected. What the people thought many years ago about our planet – that it was flat or was supported by elefants.
We will create space ships out of toilet rolls and we will talk about discovering the moon – how the moon looks and who was there first. Do you think that we are alone in our solar system? Who knows? We will do an easy theater about aliens and we will make our aliens from paper and try to teach him/her English.

Arts & Crafts Activities:

18.8.-22.8.
Picasso; a little different

We will learn about:

  • We will explore body proportions through the variety of contemporary art techniques, materials and methods. Every day will be dedicated to one technique or artist and process of creation that will happen both inside and outside.

Educational Activities:

The Artists/artworks will be mostly introduced in our „interactive board“ room through the presentations, videos and hands on activities.

Children will be challenged with questions about the art forms/pictures they see. Finding the answers will activate their vocabulary.

There will also be worksheets improving our grafomotor skills and helping us to learn and understand our bodies.

Games:

„Artists Mystery bag“– some artworks/artists will be introduced through this fun way. Take out the object. How would you use them? Guess what it is.

“Puzzles/Matching game” – variety of the puzzles from cut up artworks will be created to match the detail with the whole, finding the differences or simply putting together.

“Move your body like…” – body improvisation based on big screen power point presentation of some artworks to the tunes of the music.

Arts & Crafts Activities:

“Chalk art with Keith Haring” – full body/shadow tracing or drawing finished off with adding some real objects.

“Fun with Tapes” – we will be inspired by various contemporary street artists and create outside site-specific artworks both 2D and 3D.

“Little people, elf’s and ferries” – we will make a small figure using various techniques and then place them in the park and take a photo of them.

Music:

Music will be chosen with the cooperation with our teacher Steve aka Dj P. Each day we will play different music from classical to pop.

Trip or extra activity:

We will go to an art gallery and have a look at an actual art exhibition.

25.8.-29.8.2014
Let´s play

We will learn about:

  • How old toys and games in fact are
  • Who were the first people to play
  • How we can fill our leisure time with healthy activities
  • How healthy playing is
  • Why we love playing so much

Educational Activities:

We will practice questions and answers concerning leisure time and playing (What´s your favorite…? What do you prefer…? Do you like…? etc.)

We will briefly introduce the history of toys and games. Then we will put them in categories: board games, card games, dice, dart games, table games, electronic games, dolls, soft toys, wooden toys, cars, etc.

And we have the whole week for trying some of them like: Tic-tac-toe, Scrabble, Dice, Drafts, Pexeso, Mikado, card games, board games, etc.

Of course we will build amazing things from Lego blocks, Kapla, Žako, etc.

Games:

Children can bring their own toys and games every day and play with them.

Arts & Crafts Activities:

We will create our own board game. We will draw it on a large paper and construct how the game will be.

Music:

We will sing the songs like “Toy song”, “The Pinocchio” and many more.

Trip or extra activity:

During this week we will organize several COMPETITIONS in games like pexeso, drafts, mikado, „mlýn“, etc.
