Adoptions at the ZOO

We have become adoptive parents…

Not to a baby as you might think but to an owl!

KinderGarten has adopted a Buffy Fish Owl Ketupa ketupu of the owl order. You will find her in an enclosure known as the Pheasantry located in the lower part of the Prague ZOO.

Ketupa is a spitting image of our red owlet and that is why we have chosen her. Of course, the difference is in colour, Ketupa is not red but rather brown, her wingspan may reach up to 120 cm and she weighs 2 kg.

Interesting facts:

When hunting, Ketupa flies slowly above water and catches her prey thanks to long toes. The toes have corneous slats on the underside and spiny scales to prevent the fish from slipping out. Sometimes she just walks in shallow water catching food with her beak.

We believe that Ketupa will be happy under our auspices. We are glad to have made a contribution to the ZOO in this way and we hope you will come and see the owlet with your children.
